There are a number (22 according to Trip Advisor) of restaurants in Girdwood. According to a local informant, 6 highly recommended ones are listed below (together with her comments). These are in addition to those in the hotel.
The Double Musky Inn
They have fantastic steaks!!! Highly recommended.
Jack Sprat I love food here, very good.
Chair Five Restaurant Good food, pizzas, burgers, and nice entree dishes as well. They have a bar side with a pool table and a restaurant side for more family oriented seating.
Silvertip Grill A locals hangout but they have very good food. More of a bar style environment, great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
The Bake Shop Fantastic place for homemade soups and sandwiches! Great place for breakfast and/or lunch.
Coast Pizza Great pizza and sub sandwiches! They also offer delivery after 5pm.
I have been to Jack Sprat several times in the evening and enjoyed it, Also at the Bake Shop for Cappucino and a Baklava.
Note: The Alyeska van will take you to the local places.
Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center
A place for rehabilitating injured wildlife, and breeding rare species for release in Alaskan wilderness. Reasonably close to the Alyeska Prince Resort, so a trip there at lunchtime is feasible. The admission is $12.50, but a discount for GWADW 2015 participants, using vouchers, has been arranged.
Portage Lake Glacier Tour
A short ~ 1 hour boat tour past a nearby glacier that calves. $39. We are discussing the possibility of a reduced rate for participants.
Arrangements have been made for discounted rates for 2 fascinating boat tours out of Seward and Whittier.
